§ 01 — WHO THIS IS FOR

Built for operators who already know the rules, and still get surprised by them.

Cannabis ad compliance is not one set of rules. It's fourteen, overlapping, revised quarterly, and enforced unevenly by platform moderators who mostly guess. This is the field reference you keep open in a tab.

In-house MSO marketing

Directors running paid across six or more state-licensed stores. The ones getting asked "is this legal in New York?" at 4:47pm on a Friday. This reference is for you first.

Agency strategists

Running dispensary accounts and tired of rebuilding the same compliance matrix per client. Use this as the baseline, layer your client's specifics on top.

Founders & operators

Single-state and multi-state brand founders who want to stop paying agencies to explain what they can and cannot show in an ad.

§ 02 — ON THE DESK

Three tools. One operator's reference.

Start with the Matrix. It's free and it's enough to keep you out of trouble. The Playbook is where the money moves. The quarterly updates keep both current as the rules change around you.

§ 03 — COMMON QUESTIONS

What people ask before they download.

Is this just for multi-state operators?

No. The Matrix covers 14 state rulebooks because that's where most MSO dollars sit, but a single-state operator in any of those markets gets the same value. If you run paid in California or Nevada, you get the California or Nevada reference without the other twelve.

How current is the reference?

Current through April 24, 2026. The latest revision incorporates Massachusetts's April 19 cannabis reform, Ohio's SB 56 (effective March 20), New York's PLMA amendments from December 2025, and Minnesota's section 342.64 rules. Quarterly updates ship from here.

Is this legal advice?

No. The Pixel Desk is not a law firm and this is not legal counsel. The Matrix is a first-pass operational reference. Before running a campaign in any state, confirm with a compliance officer or cannabis attorney.

Who's behind The Pixel Desk?

An operator with a decade of dispensary paid media experience across Shopify Plus, Google Ads, Meta Ads, GA4, server-side GTM, and programmatic DSPs including Jane, Surfside, and Fyllo. The focus here is on the work, not the name.

What's actually in the Playbook?

Ten chapters covering: attribution architecture for dispensary POS stacks, pixel QA protocols, server-side event taxonomy, KPI frameworks by campaign type, difference-in-differences measurement methodology, tentpole campaign benchmarks, and anonymized MSO case studies. The Playbook ships Q2 2026.
